The Karen People of Burma (Myanmar), whose country remains ravaged by a war that has lasted more than six decades, believe that no one hears their pleas for help. In this animated experimental documentary, over 10,000 photos animate a landscape over which many voices from Kaw Thoo Lei may be heard.

Surviving International Blvd: Domestic Child Sex Trafficking • Documentary • Sian Taylor Gowan (20:00)

The complex reality of domestic child sex trafficking is revealed through the experiences of two local women from Oakland, California. Driving along International Boulevard’s dark streets, a mother recounts her determination to rescue her 15-year-old daughter from a sex trafficker “boyfriend”; and a nonprofit advocate and survivor of sexual exploitation shares her 14 years of experience helping young victims get help. Screened at Cannes Short Film Corner.

Silver Dogs • Erin Drake-Prior • Narrative (17:57)

Gentle comedy in which a recently divorced stand-up comedian, homeless and living in his car, struggles after his ex-wife forces him to take their two senior Weimaraners. Starring San Francisco stand-up Matt Lieb. Silver Dogs was made by Bay Area talent and crew. A portion of Silver Dogs was filmed at the Albany waterfront and its surrounding parking lots.

Stand Up and Kneel • Documentary • VICE News Tonight (7:00)

After San Francisco 49-ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick first knelt for the national anthem, young people around the country have turned what was a national controversy into a local one.
