Watch the trailer

Join us for Bay Area director Connie Fields’s The Whistleblower of My Lai and stay after the film for a Q&A with the film’s editor Gregory Scharpen. The film captures the artistic journey of the Kronos Quartet as they create an opera about the My Lai massacre, one of the darkest moments of the Vietnam War, which shook the national conscience.

A unique fusion of opera and documentary, this film blends the emotional crystallization of a dramatized human story with the concreteness of real life. It tells a story that captures both the best and worst of humanity through the examination of one incident in one man’s life: Army helicopter pilot Hugh Thompson and his discovery and exposure of the My Lai massacre in Vietnam.

With composer Jonathan Berger, tenor Rinde Eckert, and master Vietnamese musician Vân-Ánh Võ.

(Not rated, 64 minutes)

A co-presentation of Albany FilmFest, the Albany Library, and Friends of the Albany Library
