Albany FilmFest Presents: 2 Scary Shorts + Filmmaker Q&A
WHEN: Tuesday, October 24, 7pm
WHERE: Albany Library, Edith Stone Room, 1247 Marin Avenue, Albany CA
ADMISSION: Free!
Good news for would-be scary film directors: Bay Area filmmakers Timothy Plain ("The Spirit Machine") and Hannah Scharlin-Pettee ("Orientation") are here to tell you how independent filmmakers do it. According to Hannah, "Horror films are some of the cheapest to make!"
After the films, the filmmakers will discuss their films, the challenges they faced and the resourceful DIY special effects tricks they used, share some pre-production photography and drawings, and take audience questions.
"Orientation" (12 minutes): A new transfer student finds herself living in a haunted dorm room.
"The Spirit Machine" (22 minutes): A desperate, out of touch father and his teenage daughter must work together to solve a series of puzzles and traps built to prevent Edison's last invention, the "spirit machine," from being found.
Co-presentation of Albany FilmFest, Albany Library, and Friends of the Albany Library, and Albany Parks and Recreation. Films not rated. *** Parents please note: This is a spooky pre-Halloween event, so expect a few jump scares and ghostly images, as well as an allusion to suicide. May not be suitable for young children.
